Create a TV in Photoshop
December 29th, 2007
Overview
Wanted a TV for Christmas but didn’t get one? Well, now you can make your own!
Step 1
Create a new document. Using the Rectangle Tool (U) draw a rectangle like the one below. Fill it with black.
Open the Layer Style and apply a Gradient Overlay with these settings
![]()

Step 2
Still using the Rectangle Tool, create a new rectangle below the first one. Fill it with #656565.
To create a little pizzazz take the marquee tool and make a selection of one pixel high and 100% of the black rectangle, fill it with #888888.

Step 3
Take the Rectangle Tool and draw another rectangle above the first one and fill it with any color you want (I used #4ea6f8)
Create a new layer above the screen layer. Take the Elliptical Marquee Tool and make a selection from the top right corner to the bottom left of the screen and fill it with white, set the opacity to 44%
Take the pen tool and draw a wave shape going from the bottom left up to the top right corner. Fill it with #1f54ac and set the opacity to 11%
Make a new layer above all of those three layers and select the Gradient Tool. Choose the Radial Gradient, 2nd option from the left in the toolbar. In the Gradient Editor select the “Foreground to Transparent” gradient; hit D then X, Click and drag from near the top right corner to the bottom left corner. Set the opacity to 66%.

Step 4
Take the Ellipse Tool (U) and draw an ellipse like the shape below. Fill it with #5a5a5a.

Step 5
Duplicate the ellipse you just made, fill it with #9c9c9c, hit Command+T and scale it down just a tad smaller then the original ellipse.

Step 6
Do the same thing as you did in Step 5 but this time fill it with #bfbfbf and make it much smaller then the original layer.

Step 7
Again! Do the same thing as Step 5. Fill it with #7c7c7c, but while you’re in free transform instead of scaling it down your self, in the options toolbar in the W and H inputs put 98%
Apply a Gradient Overlay style with these settings (the gray color in the gradient is #8e8e8e)

Step 8
Draw another ellipse, using the Ellipse Tool, and fill it with #949494.

Step 9
Command+Click on the second shape layer (Second largest) and then take the marquee tool and while holding Option deselect the part hidden behind the screen.
Take the Foreground to Transparent Gradient, make black your foreground color, and draw a gradient from the top of the selection to the middle.

Step 10
Create a new layer below all the other layers. With the Elliptical Marquee Tool draw a selection below the base, which is a little bit bigger, then it and fill it with black. Apply a Gaussian Blur with the radius of 6.6 (Or whatever you want). Set the opacity to 20%.
Duplicate the layer and scale it down to a little bit smaller than its parent layer and set its opacity to 66%.
Note: After you apply the Gaussian Blur it may look to big to change this just hit Command+T and change either the height or the width.

Step 11
Take the Brush Tool and select a green color (I used #3fb840) and make the size 2px with 0% hardness. Make a dot and then create a layer below that layer and make 2 darker dots on either side of the light green dot. For the dark dots I used #365935

Conclusion
In this tutorial you learned how to create a TV using mostly the shape tool. The shape tool is nice to use because it’s very easy to scale your drawing without making it unrecognizable.

Nice Site!

Some of the directions aren’t clear. Needs to have more detail on what photoshop looks like while your doing it. The tutorials I’ve had the most success with had screenshots of photoshop.
