Grout is the line with porous filling between floor and wall tiles. Such an easy place to forget when cleaning that it ends up harboring so much dirt. If left for too long, it gets discolored and even black due to the accumulated dirt.
The biggest culprits of dirt are the kitchen tiles and the bathroom tiles because they are constantly exposed to dampness. Even with regular cleaning, it is recommended that you hire a grout cleaning service provider at least once every six months. To avoid build up, try out any of these hacks.
Hack #1: Oxygen Bleach Powder
Make a bit of the oxygen bleach powder and add to some hot boiling water. This will make the mixture bubble. Now, apply the mixture to your grout and using a hard toothbrush, gently clean the grout.
Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes. Clean off the product using a wet cloth. This method is super easy. Just two steps and you have a clean grout.
Hack #2: Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide
You will need baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and, of course, a toothbrush — things you definitely have in your pantry. Take two parts of baking soda and mix with one part of hydrogen peroxide. Apply on the tile grout using a toothbrush.
For around one minute or two, let the mixture sit. Scrub with the brush and wipe off the product. Ensure that you remove all the product. Baking soda has a tendency of leaving residue behind.
Hack #3: Baking Soda and Water
You will need baking soda, water, and a toothbrush. Pour some hot water on grout lines and sprinkle some baking soda on top. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes so that it soaks up into the grout.
Pour hot water again on the mixture, which by this time is thick and hard. The hot water should be able to break it up. Now, using your brush, scrub off the product on each line. Finally, wipe off the product and ensure you leave the grout lines residue-free.
Hack #4: Good old hot water
This is the simplest of all the hacks. Just ensure that the water is very hot and maintain at that hot temperature throughout the cleaning.
Sprinkle some hot water on the line and clean in one direction strictly. Scrubbing up and down will not remove any dirt. And, when scrubbing down, you return the dirt to the same place.
Bonus tip: Some tile grouts are stubborn and instead of stressing yourself up and spending so much on cleaning products, just hire professional grout cleaning services.
There is no way you can completely remove the mold and mildew inside — and not to mention, underneath — the grout without professional help. Replacing or removing cracked grouts is also too risky and the best is to call for professionals to do it.
Again, even with regular cleaning, it is recommended that you hire grout cleaning services at least once every six months.
